東京農業大学創立125周年記念事業「新世紀の食と農と環境を考える」

開催趣旨

今日の世界は持続可能性の危機に直面しており、このような状況下で人類の将来を担う若者たちに対する期待は大きく、彼らの知恵と活力を結集することが極めて重要である。農学は食料の安定生産と安全性の確保、環境保全、健康増進、資源エネルギー確保と有効利用などを対象とした学問分野であり、農学を学ぶ学生には人類の繁栄と平和の実現に重大な責務が課せられている。いうまでもなく、食料の生産と消費は、自然環境、経済発展段階、食文化などと深く関連しており、そのパターンや問題は地域の特性を反映している。したがって、各地域の固有な条件を踏まえて、農業・食料システムがどのように構築され維持されるべきかを理解することが重要である。

「新世紀の食と農と環境を考える世界学生サミット」（ISS）は、東京農業大学創立110周年記念事業の一環として2001年に留学生を含む本学学生と海外協定校学生など21世紀を担う若者を参集して開催され、人類が直面する深刻な諸問題に関する意見・情報交換および彼ら自身の役割について議論する機会を提供した。その後も学生サミットは世田谷キャンパスを舞台に、「Think globally, act locally」を基本理念に毎年開催され、2002年の「行動計画」の採択、2003年の世界学生フォーラム（ISF）の設立などの成果をあげてきた。第12回世界学生サミットでは本学の最初の協定校であるアメリカ合衆国ミシガン州立大学に舞台を移して行なわれた。その後も第14回世界学生サミットが協定校カセサート大学カンペンセンキャンパス（タイ）で開催された。また、第13回世界学生サミットからは、国際的意識の高い国内日本人高校生にも発表の門戸を広げ、国内外における認知度はますます高くなっている。

本年で東京農業大学創立125年を迎える。その記念すべき年に、第16回世界学生サミットは2016年9月29-30日に東京農業大学世田谷キャンパスで開催される。現在、本学の海外協定校は学部間協定を含めて43校と規模を拡大しており、第16回世界学生サミットは史上最大規模となることが予想される。第15回世界学生サミットで参加学生が自ら設定した今年のテーマは「世界規模で普及する集約農業の下での環境正義の推進」である。各大学の学生においては、それぞれの地域社会に根ざした活動を通じて地球規模の問題解決に貢献するための「活動の理論、方法、影響（経済、社会、文化）」の枠組みを明確に提示した発表と討論を行うことを希望する。

各大学の代表は以下の食と農と環境にかかわる４つのセッションにおいて発表を行なう。
