新世紀の食と農と環境を考える

開催趣旨

世界各地における持続的な発展は，現在，非常に厳しい状況である。このような状況下で人類生存の将来を担う若者たちに対する期待は大きい。若者たちの知恵と活力を結集することは極めて重要である。農学は食料の安定生産と安全性の確保、環境保全、健康増進、資源エネルギーの有効利用などを対象とした学問分野である。農学を学ぶ学生には人類の繁栄と平和の実現に重大な責務が課せられている。食料の生産と消費は、自然環境、経済発展、食文化などと深く関連しており、その様式や問題は地域の特性を反映する。各地域の風土を踏まえた農業・食料生産システムが，どのように構築され維持されるべきかを理解することが求められる。

新世紀を迎えた2001年11月に、東京農業大学は創立110周年記念事業の一環として「新世紀の食と農と環境を考える世界学生サミット」（ISS）を開催した。留学生を含む本学学生と海外協定校学生などから21世紀を担う若者を参集して、人類が直面する深刻な諸問題に関する意見・情報交換および自身の役割について議論する機会をもった。２日間にわたる議論の結果が，「東京宣言」に取りまとめられた。その後も学生サミットは毎年継続して開催され、2002年の「行動計画」の採択、2003年の世界学生フォーラム（ISF）の設立などの成果をあげてきた。また、2005年には食・農・環境に関する情報や知識を共有する場としてISS/ISFの参加経験者によって食・農・環境に関するグローバルネットワーク（Global NEFA）が設立された。第12回世界学生サミットは、本学とミシガン州立大学の共催で、ミシガン州立大学で開催された。

世界学生サミットは今年で14回目を迎え、2014年9月19日～20日にカセサート大学カンペンセンキャンパスで開催される。今年のサブテーマは「食、農、環境分野において、在来の共同体と地域文化の中で、伝統的な知識を維持しながら改善するために行動する学生」である。これは、第13回サミットで参加学生が自ら設定した課題である。前回のテーマと似ているが、本年はより視点を絞り、各大学の学生がそれぞれの地域社会で実際に行っている活動に関する発表と討論を行うことが期待されている。視点を，実際の地域での活動に絞ることによって、地球規模の問題に対して学生たちが貢献できる活動の理論や方法、影響（経済、社会、文化）の枠組みを明確にできると思われる。

各大学の代表は以下の食と農と環境に関わる４つのセッションにおいて、一度、発表する。
