Tokyo NODAI’s Response to University Closure/Self-restraint Request Associated with State of Emergency Declaration Made by Japanese Government

On Tuesday, April 7, 2020, the Japanese Government declared a state of emergency based on “Act on Special Measures concerning Pandemic Influenza and New Infectious Diseases” and the governors of Tokyo and Kanagawa requested the closure of schools and self-restraint of outings.

In response to the requests, Tokyo NODAI has decided all the activities of students, faculty members and staff from April 10 (Fri.) until further notice to be as follows. These measures are being taken until all the requests are withdrawn.

1. Entry to Campuses (including Farms and Practice Forests)

(1) For students

All the entry to campuses is prohibited.
*In case of entering campus is absolutely necessary for keeping animals and plants, you may enter the campus with your supervisor’s permission.

(2) For faculty members
All the entry to campuses is prohibited in general.
*In case entering campus is absolutely necessary for the progress of your education and research, you may enter the campus with the section chief’s permission.

(3) For the staff of Tokyo NODAI
All the entry to campuses is prohibited in general.
*A minimum member of staff entering campus is allowed with the section chief’s permission to maintain office administration.

(4) For the staff of the company in campuses or the staff of any related companies to Tokyo NODAI
All the entry to campuses is prohibited in general.
* A minimum member of staff entering campus is allowed with a prior permission to maintain facilities and buildings under contract.

2. Inquiry

As the staff is working from home during this period, no inquiry is accepted over the phone.
Inquiries made by e-mail will be responded but a certain delay in responding is expected.
*We would like to ask for your understanding and corporation as these measures are taken under a state of emergency.

3. Start Date of Spring 2020 Semester

In response to the state of emergency declaration, we postpone the start of the new semester to May 11 (Mon) or later.
Further updates on the start of the new semester will be announced on April 10 (Fri.) as follows:

Given the current situation of COVID-19, Tokyo NODAI is taking measures prioritizing the following points:

(1) Ensuring the well-being and lives of our students, faculty members and staff.
(2) Caring the living creatures for education and research purposes.
(3) Providing our students and faculty members with education and research opportunities.
(4) Fulfilling our responsibilities as a member of society
