Announcement of the 25th International Students Summit (ISS) and Use for Class Substitution

Tokyo University of Agriculture will host the 25th International Students Summit on Food, Agriculture and Environment (ISS) as outlined below.

This year, 27 students from 26 partner universities in 23 countries and regions will participate in the ISS. Under the theme “Pushing Boundaries: Inclusive Activities for Community Welfare,” they will give presentations and engage in discussions on issues related to food, agriculture, and the environment. The sessions will be chaired by 14 Tokyo NODAI students.

As the 25th anniversary, this year’s ISS will provide an opportunity to reflect on the history and achievements of international student participation and exchange that have been built through the ISS over the years. It will also serve as a forum for young people to learn from one another across national and disciplinary boundaries and to consider concrete actions toward solving challenges for a more sustainable future in food, agriculture, and the environment.

On the first day, we will welcome Professor Alexander Wezel of ISARA, France, a leading scholar in sustainable agriculture and food systems, as the keynote speaker. He will deliver a lecture entitled “Agroecology on the Move: Pathways for a Sustainable Future in Agriculture and Food Systems.”

The perspective of agroecology, which connects science, practice, and society, closely aligns with the spirit of the ISS, where students take the initiative in thinking about issues related to food, agriculture, and the environment and linking their ideas to action. This keynote lecture will be a valuable opportunity for the next generation to consider their own roles in building a sustainable society.
