Global Food Systems

The purpose of this lecture is to make students understand how global food system works. As this lecture is intended to foreign students, we examine how wheat system works in European countries at the outset, then we proceed to examine how rice system works in Japan as striking examples of food system of primary products. After we examine how Japanese food system has evolved since the 19th Century, we discuss the challenges Japanese food system is now facing in the global economy. Based on the lectures above we examine food systems of the economy from which students are originated.
