Tokyo Workshop on Legal Process in Development of Agricultural Bio-Agents
Dates 22(Tue) - 24 (Thu), March 2005
Venue Academic Frontier Research Center,
Tokyo University of Agriculture
Objectives
Developments of biological agents that can be applicable as alternatives for chemical pesticides and fertilizers in sustainable agriculture are in great concern. In application of biological agents such as natural enemies, antagonistic microbes, attenuated viruses, bio-fertilizer, and botanical pesticides, it is requested to follow every legal process including registration as pesticides or fertilizers, patenting, intellectual property rights as the outcome of collaborative research, and plant quarantine and other regulations in importation and exportation of foreign bio-materials.
In this workshop, mainly based upon the experience in research activities in Academic Frontier Research Project (AFRP), speakers from AFRP members and also professionals in these fields will be invited from Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Japan to deliver presentations. One-day bus excursion to private company/farm where biological agents are applied is planned on the second day. Through this workshop, the participants will learn legal process to be concerned in practical application of newly developed bio-agents.
