ISSAAS INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS 2008 TO BE HELD IN BANGKOK, THAILAND

Kasetsart University is proud to host the ISSAAS International Congress 2008 in order to promote science and technology in Southeast Asia. The theme for the congress this year is “Agriculture for the 3Es: Economy, Environment, and Energy.”
The holistic and systems orientation to research and development in agriculture has evoked much interest and debate during the last two decades. After the Green Revolution, which apparently did increase total food production, a number of second-generation problems surfaced in term of income distribution, environmental degradation, and social adjustment. For many years,the generation of research into appropriate technologies and the diffusion and utilizaton of these technologies have contributed significantly to increased farm productivity and consequently to achieving the goals of national development. In order to promote the progress and development of science and technology related to agricultural sciences through research and publication, in particular among Southeast Asian countries, an integrated organization, “The International Society for Southeast Asian Agricultural Science: ISSAAS” was established in 1994. This congress will give attendees an opportunity to participate in a comprehensive discussion on how agriculture in this ever-changing world can be progressed from the viewpoint of the economy, environment and energy towards achieving a sustainable agricultural and rural development program.
