Tokyo University of Agriculture offers a unique, integrated approach to agricultural education.  Studies in the core areas of Agronomy, Life Science, Environmental Science, and Bio-industry Science serve to advance agriculture and to support agriculture’s related industries. 

The University’s integrated educational system provides opportunity for study at its three campuses.  The faculties of Applied Bio-Science, Regional Environmental Science, International Agriculture and Food Studies are located on the Tokyo campus in Setagaya-ku.  The faculty of Agriculture is located on the Atsugi campus in Kanagawa and the faculty of Bio-industry is located  on the Okhotsk campus in Hokkaido.  In addition, the University offers two GraduateSchool programs, one in Agriculture and one in Bio-industry. There is a two-year Junior College, as well.Altogether, this makes a total of three campuses, six faculties, 19 departments and two graduate schools from

which to choose.  Students are able to receive hands-on training at the University-sponsored farms and in forest areas to augment their classroom studies.

Since its establishment in 1891, Tokyo University of Agriculture, with its education and research based on the principle of practical science, has fostered students’ individual talents and skills.  Following this basic principle, with the goal of returning talent to the work-world, the University promotes the ideal of students demonstrating their practical skills and knowledge in an international social environment.  In this regard, the University promotes research and discussion in diverse areas including food, environment, health and energy.

Many new projects are set to further the expansion and integration of the University’s areas of expertise.  In cooperation with local industries on the coast of Okhotsk, the faculty of Bio-industry plans to establish a Department of Aqua-biology which will encourage students to work toward the resolution of aquatic and other environmental problems. The faculty of Agronomy at the Atsugi campus plans to establish a Department of Applied Biology in order to serve the community’s social welfare. By making use of a variety of plant and animal sources, this faculty plans to develop new approaches to biologic healing and implement stress reduction techniques.

In order to fulfill its responsibilities to society, the faculties of Tokyo University of Agriculture are working together toward innovations in the development of agricultural science and technology while seeking harmonious balance with the environment.
