The First Stage of Learning – Two Years Education through Practice
At the Junior College, students can pursue a theme of study deeply related to our everyday life, such as production, environment, food, health in scientific perspective. The college is structured as an independent junior college; however, as it is located in the Setagaya Campus alongside Departments of Applied Biosciences, Regional Environmental Sciences and International Food Information, it may be understood to be an faculty of TUA. Students can take advantages of being at the same campus with the four-year university in many aspects of education and research, including sharing research facilities and utilities, attending university lectures, and participating academic exchange with the university students and staff through the research laboratories.
The main parts of the courses are experiments, practical training and exercises. Students can experience the true TUA style learning with “Hands-on” education principle. Each department has unique areas of research and its laboratories. This strength in research is another unique character of ours. During two years of course work, it is possible to tackle advanced research work, equal to those conducted at a four-year university.
Another unique character of the Junior College is the wide variety of career possibilities. Students can proceed or switch to any of the 17 departments within the five faculties of TUA. They can also transfer to another university in Japan or study abroad, and of course, to find a job to utilize the knowledge and skills acquired through the two years study.
